Eye Makeup for a Smoldering Celebrity Look
The latest look rocking the runway is smoky eyes. By using a special eye makeup technique, you too can ooze sex appeal like your favorite stars. The trick is all in the outlining and blending, and if done correctly can get you red-carpet ready in no time.
Many celebrities from Gwen Stefani to Beyonce are sporting this sexy look in cosmetics. The signature effect comes from applying a combination of eye liner and eye shadow in heavy black or dark charcoal shades.
This smoky eye makeup fashion is normally achieved with applying the darker colors, but that’s not your only option. Lately, cosmetics companies like MAC are creating combo packs with deep purples and bold blues to rock out your eye makeup choices.
Creating smoky, cat-like eyes adds a bit of Hollywood glitz and a cool edge to your usual makeup routine. You will need some cosmetic supplies to create your smoky new look.
Gather eye liner, a few different eye shadow colors (base, medium and dark), eye primer, mascara, and applicator brushes.
First, apply a primer solution over the entire eyelid. A primer is a light-textured cream that you wear as an undercoat to eye makeup. It gets the lids ready for makeup and helps the eye product go on smooth and neutralizes the colors.
Next, apply a thick layer of eyeliner or eye pencil on the edge of your lid closer to your lashes. Draw the line until it’s a bit past your eye lid. Then, apply a thin layer of eye pencil to the bottom of your eye, too.
You can play around with the liner to get a variety of cosmetic styles. To achieve a smokier look, smudge the liner a bit before it dries. For a more defined old-Hollywood look, leave the liner untouched and smooth. Or create cat-like points at the edge of your eyes for a rocker girl vibe.
Now it’s time to add your color choices. The main technique for creating the smoky eye is properly blending the eye shadow. So take the time to decide which base colors you will pair with the darker, outer shades.
Pick three to four colors to create the smoky eye effect. This includes a medium shade, a medium-dark shade, an even darker shade, and a highlighting powder. Grey tones of eye shadow are the most popular for sexy, smoky eyes.
Here are some other color combos for eye makeup:
- Soft silver base with deep charcoal on top
- Neutral base with a deep burgundy
- Champagne base with dark bronze shade
- Light blue, with dark, sparkling royal blue
Now you should put on your eye shadow. Smooth the lightest color in the palette all over your eye. Next, apply a medium shade from your lash line to the crease of your eye and blend it well. Then, use a special crease-brush to add the darkest color to your upper eye lid area; additionally, smoothing and blending well.
After you’re done applying the eye makeup, brush on a generous amount of mascara. Go ahead and add the rest of your makeup such as bronzer, lipstick and blush. Go easy on your facial paint so you don’t end up looking like a cartoon character.
